Long-term union engagement involves consistent member participation and sometimes deeper leadership over a working life. You will work through written reflections and planning exercises that examine your current engagement and the routines that would sustain you across years. What you'll learn: - Sustain consistent participation including meeting attendance and contract ratification involvement - Consider stewardship and other volunteer roles within your union - Engage with bargaining including survey participation and member input on priorities - Support colleagues including newer workers and those facing workplace issues - Stay current with labor law changes and broader labor movement developments - Reflect on the longer-term role of union engagement in working life and personal meaning The course begins with consistent participation, moves through volunteer roles, bargaining engagement, colleague support, staying current, and finishes with long-horizon reflection. A capstone written exercise asks you to draft a multi-year union engagement plan grounded in your real workplace and career. This course is designed for union members thinking about long-term engagement. It is approachable for committed beginners willing to do the foundational work first.
