Applied Shiatsu Practice: Long-Term Clients, Meridian Diagnosis, and Professional Development

A shiatsu practitioner's skill deepens most through sustained work with the same clients over time — learning to track how their Ki patterns shift, refining diagnostic reading of the hara, and adjusting treatment focus with greater and greater sensitivity. This course supports that developmental arc, using extended client case studies to develop the diagnostic and planning capacities that distinguish an experienced practitioner from a newly qualified one. By the end of this course you will be able to develop a multi-session treatment plan informed by meridian diagnosis, track changes in hara findings and Ki quality across a treatment series, adapt your shiatsu approach for clients with emotional or complex presentations, navigate the scope-of-practice boundaries of shiatsu in relation to health conditions, and reflect systematically on your own diagnostic reasoning. What you will learn: - Multi-session treatment planning in shiatsu: how to hold a therapeutic arc across four, six, or eight sessions - Tracking Ki change over time: how hara findings shift, what to make of change or stasis, and how to adjust - Working with the Five Elements in practice: identifying elemental imbalances and their treatment implications over time - Emotionally complex presentations: understanding the emotional associations of each meridian and working sensitively - Scope and ethics: how to address clients seeking shiatsu for serious health conditions responsibly - Interprofessional communication: when and how to liaise with a client's GP or other care providers - Reflective practice in shiatsu: case journaling, seeking supervision, and using peer discussion productively - Professional presence: developing a clear treatment philosophy and communicating your approach to clients The course draws on five extended case studies following clients with different elemental profiles over multi-session sequences. Each case includes initial diagnosis, session records, practitioner reflections, and resolution summaries. Analysis questions and comparison exercises are woven through. A multi-session planning worksheet and a reflective practice journaling format are included. This course is suitable for shiatsu practitioners with at least some client experience who want to develop more sophisticated diagnostic and treatment planning capacity.
