You will work through written exercises that mirror how a thoughtful union member would navigate their workplace. The emphasis is on practical engagement with the contract and union. What you'll learn: - Read your collective bargaining agreement including key provisions and grievance procedures - File grievances appropriately including documentation, timelines, and contract citations - Participate in union meetings, elections, and ratification votes - Understand union dues, fair share fees, and your obligations and rights - Work with shop stewards including when to involve them and how to support their work - Manage common challenges including disagreements with union positions and contract disputes The course progresses from contract reading through grievance filing, union participation, dues and fees, shop steward relationships, and common challenges. A capstone written exercise asks you to plan a personal engagement approach for your union workplace. This course is designed for union workers and committed beginners with union workplace contact.
