Res 10 S95 Physics Of Covid 19 Transmission Fall 2020

Understanding how airborne pathogens travel through the air is crucial for designing safe, healthy indoor environments. This course introduces the fundamental physical principles behind respiratory aerosol transmission, fluid dynamics, and risk assessment. You will learn how to quantitatively evaluate transmission risks in various indoor settings. By understanding the interaction of ventilation, filtration, mask usage, and room geometry, you will gain the skills to apply safety guidelines and make data-driven decisions for indoor air safety. What you'll learn: - Understand the physics of respiratory droplets, aerosols, and fluid dynamics in enclosed spaces - Calculate airborne transmission risks using foundational mathematical models - Evaluate the impact of ventilation rates, air filtration systems, and humidity on pathogen concentration - Analyze how mask efficiency, room occupancy, and exposure time influence overall risk - Apply modern indoor air quality concepts to design safer public and private environments The course begins with foundational concepts of aerosol physics, fluid mechanics, and pathogen viability. You will then progress to practical risk-modeling concepts, examining real-world scenarios such as classrooms and offices to understand how to calculate safety limits. This course is designed for students, public health enthusiasts, and facility managers, starting with essential definitions and building up to practical models with no advanced prerequisites required. Start reading today to master the science of indoor air safety and transmission modeling.
