Introduction to Abstract Algebra and Group Theory

Abstract algebra is the language of symmetry, structure, and modern mathematical thought. If you want to understand how mathematicians look at patterns and algebraic relationships beyond basic arithmetic, this course provides the perfect entry point. You will transition from concrete calculations to abstract reasoning, building a powerful toolkit for advanced mathematics and computer science applications. By reading through our structured lessons, you will develop a deep conceptual appreciation for algebraic systems and learn how to construct rigorous proofs. We begin with foundational set theory and binary operations before moving into the core properties of groups, subgroups, and structural mappings. What you'll learn: - Understand the core definition of a group, including identity elements, inverses, and associativity - Analyze symmetry groups and their real-world applications in geometry and physics - Explore cyclic groups, generators, and fundamental principles of number theory - Construct and verify normal subgroups and quotient groups - Apply the concepts of group homomorphisms and isomorphisms to compare algebraic structures - Practice written mathematical proofs to build logical rigor and abstract reasoning skills This course is designed for beginners who want a clear, step-by-step introduction to higher mathematics. We start with basic definitions and build up to complex structures, ensuring you understand the 'why' behind every theorem. No advanced mathematical background is required to begin. Start your journey into the elegant world of abstract algebra today.
