Introduction to Complex Numbers and Complex Functions

Have you ever wondered how mathematics extends beyond real numbers to solve complex engineering and physical problems? Understanding the complex number system and complex functions is key to unlocking advanced topics in physics, engineering, and higher mathematics. This text-only course guides you from the absolute basics of complex algebra to the core concepts of complex functions. By reading through clear, structured explanations and working through written practice problems, you will build a strong mathematical foundation. What you'll learn: - Understand the fundamental properties and geometric representation of complex numbers - Perform complex arithmetic, including polar, rectangular, and exponential forms - Explore the concepts of limits, continuity, and differentiability in the complex plane - Master the Cauchy-Riemann equations and identify analytic functions - Apply basic complex mapping and analyze elementary complex functions. The course begins with key terminology, foundational definitions, and basic arithmetic operations. From there, you will progress step-by-step through limits, continuity, and the derivative of complex functions, complete with written examples and self-assessment exercises. This course is designed for beginners, students, and self-learners looking for a clear, structured introduction to complex analysis. No prior exposure to complex numbers is required, though a basic familiarity with standard algebra and calculus is helpful. Start reading today to master the beauty and utility of complex functions.
